INTRODUCTION

The major population of India lives in villages, and in fact, the majority of the village population is covered by Farmers. The farmer’s life is not easy, and generally it is full of hardship and struggle. A farmer works from early morning to late evening, under cold winds, hot sun, or heavy rain, so that food is served on our plates daily. Even after working hard, they often find it very difficult to meet their basic needs.

To help these hardworking farmers, the Government of India eventually launched a very supportive scheme for the farmers. The scheme is called PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. This scheme may look unimportant on paper, but it is indeed a big ray of hope for farmers.PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a central Government scheme finally launched on 24th Feb 2019. The main motto of this scheme is basically to arrange financial support for marginal and small farmers.

Eligible farmers receive a sum of 6000 per year, paid correspondingly into their accounts. This amount of ₹6000/- is given in 3 equal instalments of ₹2000 each, periodically every four months.

This is a direct income support and indeed not a loan to farmers.  This scheme certainly does not provide farmers with the amount on a returnable basis.

WHY WAS THIS SCHEME NEEDED? –

The farmers in our country face a lot of problems, such as:

  • Rising cost of fertilisers, Uncertain, seeds and diesel
  • Uncertain rainfall
  • Loans and Debts
  • Low market price for their products
  • No fixed monthly income

Like a salaried person, a farmer doesn’t know about his earnings next month. Their earnings depend on nature, luck, and the market. Farming in India is, moreover, like gambling.

The scheme provides the following support to farmers under the PM Kisan Scheme.

  • Basic financial aid
  • Support for daily needs
  • Confidence to keep farming without fear or burden
  • Help in buying fertilisers, tools and seeds.

The amount ₹6,000 looks small, but it may help a farmer for his personal use, like school fees, medicine, etc.

WHO CAN GET BENEFIT FROM PM KISAN SCHEME: –

This Scheme is not specifically for all farmers. The Government has designed this scheme for small and medium-sized farmers, who are basically struggling to earn bread for their families.

A person is altogether eligible if

  • He is a farmer
  • He owns cultivable land
  • He has a valid Aadhar card
  • His name is in the land record
  • He has a bank account, and Aadhar is linked to it.

The following are some people who can not avail themselves of the benefits of this scheme:

  • Income tax payers
  • Pensioners getting more than ₹10,000 per month
  • Government Employees (Except Lower category staff)
  • Professionals like lawyers, engineers, and doctors.

This scheme effectively ensures that money is given to needy people.

HOW DOES MONEY REACHES FARMERS:-

Money promptly reaches to eligible farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT). It means there is no middleman involved, and hence it reduces corruption. Consequently, DPT reduces delay due to file movements in offices.

The Full amount of ₹6000.00 goes directly into the farmer’s bank account.

Farmers get an SMS when money is credited to their account, which correspondingly makes the DBT transparent and corruption-free.

    CONCLUSION:

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a beautiful example of how a simple step towards the welfare of the lower class of the population may bring positive change in the community.

The scheme teaches us that Development doesn’t mean only about big buildings and cities, but it also means supporting the hands that arrange food for us.

The farmers are the real heroes of this nation, and they are similar to the armed forces. The citizens of India must respect the farmers who put food in their plates.
